With the stay at home orders, I’m coming up with anyway to get my littles wheels turning.
My toddler can be a struggle, but we finally found an activity that lasted longer than 10 minutes. This toddler activity can be done with material already found at home. It assist with color memorization and recognition.
To begin, you’ll need markers, crayons or color pencils and a blank piece of paper. Start with the first color – draw a box and fill in with the selected color. Ask your toddler to look around and locate the selected color. Make a list. Then have your toddler locate an item or toy that is also this selected color. This is a great chance to see the different shade range a color can be as well.
Let me warn you, put away anything you DO NOT want them to find. When searching looking for something purple, my toddler located my thigh master. 😂😂😂
MATERIALS
•Color pencils, markers or crayons
•Blank piece of paper or white board
INSTRUCTIONS
Take your blank paper or white board and draw a box. Fill in the selected color. Ask your toddler to look around for items within eye sight that are the same color as in the box. Write these items down. Then ask your your toddler to find a toy or item that matches the selected color.
The key is to say the selected color over and over and have your toddler repeat it back to you. Have fun exploring together!
**Note: I’m just a regular mom, trying to navigate this unprecedented times.
