We recently went on a 3 day/4 night Disney Cruise from San Diego to Ensenada, Baja California.
I’ve cruised once before as a teenager with family, but never in my adult life… being responsible for two littles. Needless to say, I wanted to be as prepared as possible.
Months before the cruise I searched the depths of the internet and read all I could possibly find. Below are the top tips I was most thankful for knowing beforehand.
DISNEY WONDER:
What every family should know before boarding the Disney Wonder
FIND YOUR CRUISEMATES
When I searched the depths of the internet for all things Disney Wonder, I found that each cruise date has a Facebook group. I gained helpful tips from what to pack to where to park. Group leaders also coordinate group meet ups if that’s your jam as well as gift exchanges. It’s always nice to have familiar faces when it’s your first time out at sea. Note: these groups are not sponsored by Disney, so please exercise caution in each group and do not share personal information.
PREPAY FOR PARKING
I personally like to pay as many expense up front. This cuts the surprises and gives us more spending money during the trip. I also hate to stress on where to go morning of events, because no one likes a cranky mom. Plus when you pre-pay you can get discounts! I personally used Airport Parking Connection and paid $42.48 for 4 days. Parking was at the Wyndham and directly across the street from the dock. Search Google for promo codes before booking. Note: there is not terminal parking like different docks that are dedicated to the cruise ships. There is also airport parking and garages nearby.
DOOR DECORATING IS A MUST
At least for us. Haha. This is another thing I learned from the group and so glad I did. Disney allows you to decorate your stateroom door. We ordered a custom magnet and had cute little name tags made as well. Sadly I lost one of the names (wahhhhhh) so we put up the boys artwork they made on the ship. Turned out as a win. Some families get super into it. The boys loved checking out each door. Check these out:
Note: magnets are the only thing you can use, no holes, tape or glue.
PIRATES, PIRATES EVERYWHERE
One of the themed nights is pirate night! Disney left us bandannas to wear at night, but of course Disney’s fans go all out! Our littles went as Captain Hook and Peter Pan. Most kids are dressed up and lots of adults, which makes it super fun! Amazon has inexpensive costumes before Halloween comes around. You can also get creative on your own! Note: they also have a boutique for boys and girls on the ship. It does book up fast and price ranges. You’ll book this at check in a few weeks before your cruise date.
GATHER ALL YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
And be sure they’re up to date! This only applies if you’re traveling out of the country (obvs). Being the last-minute mama I am, I didn’t realize my passport was expiring before our trip. I put a rush on it and paid more than I would have liked too. So be sure to check yours! Fortunately, our kids didn’t need one, so we saved a little there. You can find a full list of what they accept HERE. Also remember not to pack them away in your luggage! You’ll need them to get on and off the ship. Note: having a travel wallet came in super handy for this trip. This is the one I used: click here.
I hope these tips help your prepare for your next adventure! We certainly can’t wait for our next trip!
