My generation is reaching that prime baby making age! *Queue Marvin Gaye music* I have a different friend share the news AT LEAST once month and even more social media friends sharing their news daily (keep those awesome announcements coming!). I am often asked ‘what is the best advice that I can absolutely give’… and my advice always is ‘to run’… LOL, jk kinda, plus you can’t run from a pregnancy anyways…
My real response is to love you and embrace all changes that are coming your way, especially your new body! Pregnancy is truly magical. Sit and think about it for a second… you’re creating a life. A tiny human is being formed, shaped, built…all within you. Kind of crazy right? Now it’s more important than ever to take care of yourself. That doesn’t mean start a fitness routine and go on a crazy diet (TOTALLY NOT RECOMMENDED plus you’re probably wayyyyy too tired). What it does mean is to keep you as healthy as possible. Choose the right foods, choose to walk, find an online support group…you’re in for a wild ride. DON’T… and my husband would agree with this a MILLION times over…read articles about every single ache and pain or future disaster your child can get into. You will scare yourself to the max. Do do research on baby proofing and proper sleep habits. Also, if you ever have a serious question – call your nurse or doctor or whoever you’re under the care of and tell them what’s happening. Trust me, you’re not bothering them, they’re use to this kind of stuff. With that note – it’s also important to find someone trustworthy to talk to. Pregnancy will bring out all sorts of emotions and you’ll need that one person to keep you grounded.
The next question I am usually asked is about Money. “How can you afford a baby and all the new essentials?” It’s not easy by any means. With our first we splurged on everything under the sun. With our second we learned our lesson and realized babies really do not need much. The BIGGEST thing my husband and I did to prepare the second time around was buy those big ultra-pack of diapers (see here) once a month until our son was born. Till this day, I have not bought a single back of diapers at 7 months old (**currently fist pumping in the air LOL**). Here is what we considered the essentials.
Absolutes:
Bottles (If you’re breastfeeding kudos!)
Short sleeve Onesies
Long sleeve Onesies
Baby pajamas
Blankets
Receiving Blankets
Co-sleeper (we are big co-sleepers but they have great mini cribs too!)
Take home outfit
Optional amazing products:
Boppy
Nose Frida
Flower bath
Baby Swing
Great splurges:
Air humidifier
Rocking Chair
Baby Carrier
Baby Wrap
In the end, enjoy all the magic that is happening around you. Stay positive, upbeat and as stress free as possible. You may not see the awesomeness while your head is permanently glued to the toilet… but I promise, looking back it will be one of the most magical events of your life.
